YOUR WORDS

What do you need?

Your editing requirements may include suggestions for corporate reports, tender documents, conference proceedings, research documents, industry newsletters, autobiographies, and fiction and non-fiction.
Or you may need someone to write expressions of interest, newsletters, tenders, website content, tourism/visitor information, annual reports, grant applications, an award submission and lifestyle stories.
Your manuscript for a short story, memoir or novel may need an independent appraisal.
To make sure your words are just right and to pick up any small errors – and keep your intended audience engaged – you may need your writing proofread, including conference reports, industry newsletters and magazines, reference books, corporate reports, tenders, business plans, advertising, grant applications, award submissions, fiction and non-fiction.

IN MY OWN WORDS

My name is Fran Madigan, and I founded The Real Business over 20 years ago. Alongside my extensive experience, I hold a Graduate Diploma Editing and Publishing from RMIT University and a Graduate Diploma Arts Management from the University of Melbourne. My work spans various industries, serving clients from local to national governments, corporate entities, universities, construction and facilities management, arts organisations, authors and travel and tourism companies. I am a Professional Member of the Institute of Professional (IPEd). Since 2006, I have served as a judge for the Banksia Foundation awards program and also edit several newsletters for community and membership organisations.

When I'm not working with words, I spend time on my farm with my rescued animals, many of whom have been adopted from Edgar's Mission Farm Animal Sanctuary, including sheep, cattle, llamas, alpacas, Geraldine the three-legged pig, a goat named Sykes, chickens, and my dogs: Abbey, the blue heeler, and Wilson, the kelpie. I also foster working dogs – such as kelpies, Australian cattle dogs and border collies – for working dog rescue charity, Dogs4Jobs, preparing them for their forever homes,  And let's not forget Colin, a semi-tame cockatoo with a big personality. They all bring joy and perspective to my life.

TESTIMONIALS

What they’re saying

For more than two decades, I have found Fran to be a great person to work with; mainly because she is a sensible, pragmatic, patient operator, who above all, has a fabulous sense of humour. She can turn a pig’s breakfast of a document into a glamorous read-worthy spiel in a few hours (and then she’ll head out to tend to Geraldine’s special needs!)

She knows her way around a key board like a total whiz, she is a walking lexicon of useful and meaningful words, she is a shrewd editor who knows where a comma or semicolon is or is not required and she does not use appalling terminology such as ‘reaching out to people’. What more could your successful chunk of
copy or text ask for?

So, if you want your written communiques to actually WORK, I’d say “Just contact Fran”.

(Fran didn’t edit this by the way, so any grammatical or syntax errors are my very own…)
